1. Web skills are hot – a) C#/.NET b) Java/J2EE  and c)Python/Rails/Perl/Open source are about 95% of the position tech matches

2. Boston will still remain “behind” the Silicon Valley consumer-facing tech curve and invest in it’s strengths – enterprise, security, financial and networking.

3. The divergence of the economy will continue – the exceptional and talented to drive the market, and the average and below average marginalized.

4. Visa recruiting will pick-up. Some of the best and brightest entrepreneurs and workers come to the US on a visa and that is a good predictor of the tech economy in 2012.

5. Major VCs and venture-capitalized companies will pull back, a  bit — Darwinism will reign supreme – the best and brightest will rise to the top.

6. Salaries will become a bit more robust/unstuck at all levels.

Formal job description:

Provide technical leadership and subject matter expertise on search

Tune, tweak and experiment with various search strategies (linguistic and statistical) in our in-house developed search and Endeca platforms

Extend search quality metrics capture and reporting to give insight into search trends for improvements

Extend the in-house developed search services to allow for 3rd-party search service and vendor API integration

Partner with the Data and Analytics teams to shape incoming product data to enable higher-quality search results

Collaborate with Product Management and business owners to prototype new ideas and define features, feasibility and effort to bring to market

Looking for:

5+ years experience implementing and refining search solutions across semi-structured data sets

Demonstrated experience implementing and tuning search engines including Lucene, Solr, Endeca

Experience designing and developing REST-based services

Java 1.5+, Ruby/RoR, python, XML, Hibernate, RESTeasy/JAX-RS, Java application servers (JBoss, Tomcat), MySQL 5.1/5.5

Experience utilizing Agile/scrum and working in a DevOps model of shared accountability and responsibility

Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, Java Collections API

Experience with SaaS and ASP delivery models.

Entrepreneurial spirit and strong drive to innovate any aspect of the company

Outstanding communication skills and a track record of leadership and achievement in a team-oriented development environment

BS in Computer Science/Software Engineering
